Brief History of Saltrock

SALTROCK was established in 1988 by two brothers who both had a deep-seated interest in the sport of surfing. The two brothers traveled all the way to London for the sole purpose of surfing in that city. The gang got on the next train headed for the coast with the command, “Take them to the nearest place there’s surf,” written on their tickets.

Angus and Ross, both painters, were having a fantastic time in Cornwall up to the point where they were completely broke. In order to print and sell T-shirts with original designs that were inspired by surfing out of the trunk of an Austin Allegro, they made a blackout system out of tape, nails, and a rug from the Salvation Army. Additionally, they pieced together a printing screen out of components that they begged, borrowed, and salvaged. The people who started a new business in South Africa and gave it the name Saltrock did so with the intention of paying respect to their favorite place to surf.

The ideas took off like a rocket. The look that the brothers created was so unique and arresting that it garnered over a devoted fan base among southern and western surfers, which resulted in a shortage of the product.
They have maintained their presence in their Devon studio, which is where they come up with their one-of-a-kind designs inspired by surfing.

The values that they hold most dearly serve as the inspiration for their own creations. The fact that Saltrock‘s original client base is still rocking its vintage threads is evidence that the firm is committed to producing high-quality products that have a long shelf life.
